National Probation Service knew they needed to recruit over 600 Trainee Probation Officers over seven months. For a difficult role with a demanding learning schedule, it was vital that every applicant felt engaged and supported at each stage of their journey. It was a massive challenge which needed to be handled as smoothly as possible. That meant breaking the project down into phases and working very closely with the client on scoping and design. With the candidate experience our top priority, Havas People tackled the entire recruitment campaign, from Attraction to Application.
With so many stages of the process to consider, multiple Havas People teams were involved to deliver this integrated campaign: attraction, media & social media, digital, assessment design and delivery, engage ATS and even our learning and development resource management.
Together, we designed a competency framework and developed an attraction campaign to highlight key messages. We featured those across a rich variety of media and microsite. Social media played a big part with a Facebook community of candidates sharing information and experiences, which engaged candidates already in the recruitment process.
Crucially, we made sure we didn’t just leave our applicants once they had made their way into the system. With a thorough selection process,we were able to identify and screen high quality candidates. We used a bespoke competency screen to spot candidates who could go on to the situational judgement test. After that, those who passed a verbal reasoning test were invited to attend an assessment centre at locations in England and Wales.
We received 2776 completed applications. Each assessment centre had 48 candidates and we ran over 25 assessment centres around the country. For every two candidates who attended, one candidate was offered a place on the programme. Much to the delight of our client we exceeded our target hire number, successfully placing 650 people onto the programme.
