Words are read. Sometimes. Videos are watched. Occasionally. But music, music is the thing that people go back to, time and time again. Bizarrely, despite its power to universally connect people, and to change people’s moods in an instant, it has never been used as a tool in the workplace.
Or at least hadn’t.
Because when Costa Coffee wanted to embed their values across their organisation, we figured music was the way to go. They could have created murals on their walls. Or created a nice video. Or stuck a load of posters up. But none of that would get teams feeling the values in the moments that mattered.
So having initially asked team members what they thought their values felt like, we the got to work. Combining the sounds of Costa, live instruments and behavioural science to produce The Soundtrack. Four tracks developed to change your mood and getting you living the right value at the right time.
Supported by teaser and launch comms, The Soundtrack went live in September and seemed to strike a pretty good chord. To date the tracks have been listened to over 23,000 times, with hundreds of individual downloads too. We’ve also just heard that it has been nominated for both Best Use of Audio and Employee Engagement at The RAD Awards 2020. So congratulations to those involved and kudos to the team at Costa Coffee for believing in the idea and going with it.
